Christmas Eve arrived and much of the family arrived here on Magnolia Ave to celebrate with mom and I.
Mom was so happy to see the majority of her grand-children and great-grand-children!
Nick and some of the youngest cousins played around with mustaches. *giggles*
I was incredibly grateful to have my Christmas wish come true,..the boy made it home for the holiday.
I hope the your celebrations were and are equally joyful.

Working on Christmas

Oh my goodness, once again it seems that Christmas has sneaked up on me,we have only ten days left! Now of course life has been very busy and I have gotten quite a bit done.

There are plenty of flowers decorating the house.
And the Nutcracker stands guard over the village ready to do battle with the Mouse King!
The tree is also up along with many other decorations.
I also finished my last show of the season and had a wonderful time with many friends and clients.

Now I am trying to finish making gifts,I am hoping to be done before the week is over because there is still the baking and tamale making to do. Wish me luck!

December already, can you believe it!? Life here on Magnolia Avenue is the same, sometimes busy and sometimes quiet. My son wasn't able to come home for Thanksgiving,so he spent a few days with me the week before. We did a bit of shopping, watched movies, and played music that each of us had saved for the other. I'm hoping he can come home for Christmas,I will be devastated if he can't. I had Thanksgiving dinner with my friends Nanc and Jo and it was fun,and quiet and just what I needed.
Yesterday Nanc and Jo picked me up and we went out to the farmers market and did some window shopping.
I loved this red hat,but it was sadly out of my price range.
We met this young man near the market,he was writing free poems, you could make a donation,(to help him get his rent money together), if you liked your poem. Nanc asked him to write us a poem about friendship.

After that we headed over to Aladdin's Restaurant and had some wonderful food, falafel, hummus, pita bread, and a delicious roasted cauliflower dish. Later that evening I headed over to Nanette's house for a dinner party I had been invited to and ate another great meal with more friends. I'm so thankful for all the friends and family who are so good to me!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope your day is filled with family, friends, and turkey!
My day will be very different than I'm used to,but I will be thankful for the good things that I do have.

Show Cancelled!

I am so sorry to have to inform you that this Saturday's Art in the Yard has been cancelled due to the weather. I am very sad about it, as I always say it is my favorite show and I love the people there so much.
I do have another great show coming up in the downtown Riverside area on Sunday December 8th,I will post the flyer as soon as I get it.

Busy, busy, I've been working on makings for the show this Saturday and just found out that it might not happen because of the possibility of rain. Please think good thoughts and good weather, I really love going to this show and of course I could use the income.
I will leave you with a quick photo of my work table and my afternoon pick me up,nothing like some hot lemon water and a shortbread cookie! I will also let you know in a day or two if the show is on or not.

Remembering the Light

Tonight the time changes here, and while the light has been changing for the season,we will now have the darkness arrive much sooner in the afternoons. I'm not a big fan of this aspect of the upcoming winter,I don't like the cold and the dark. I've been trying to enjoy this gorgeous weather so that I can remember it and wrap that warm memory around me like a comfy blanket when needed this winter.
I took this photo the other day when I noticed the shadows on my bedroom wall. The walls look white here, but they are actually a lovely pale green and the late afternoon light the shines upon them is wonderful, the whole room almost glows for a short time in that part of the day.

It's November and we know what that means don't we? No I'm not talking about Thanksgiving,(yet),I'm talking about "Art in the Yard"!
I've been working on some new ornaments and jewelry,(to ornament yourself),and I will of course have some of my tried and true pieces. The boy is trying to arrange his schedule to be able to come and spend that day,so cross your fingers and it might just be like old times,(almost).

Day of the Dead Festival

This past weekend was all about the Dia de los Muertos Festival!
This couple was so cute walking around together, they were holding hands the whole time.
These are photos of the family altar that I set up,(that's me in the background wearing the new skelly scarf my son had just given me).
This cross was made by my nephew Andrew.
My dear daddy is in the frame on top and that bottom frame is a rare photo we have of my grandfather,great-grandfather,and great-great-grandfather.
That lady reading in the background is my mom!
The childrens guitar belonged to my brother,he learned to play when he was a little boy,and the woman in that photo is my beloved grandmother.

My brother and his Sunday hat.

Lots of photos of my darling husband Jim.

The woman above is my cousin-in-law Rosalinda and she won the costume contest! They gave her the banner she is wearing and it says "Queen" on it.
These kinda scary looking guys are dancers, they do a procession throughout the grounds cracking whips as they go.
(All photos in this post were taken by my son Nick)

As I predicted, the class with dear Nina was a blast! First of all,French General is a darling shop and packed full of awesome stuff, secondly,Kaari and her crew are great, and last but not least,I got to hang out with my friend Tammie! I really enjoyed myself and of course I learned some fun new to me techniques with Nina. As usual I didn't get many photos, but here are a few.

I loved this wall of jars full of all kinds of beads and findings, truly gorgeous things.
This is a bit of the piece I was working on,I'll try to remember to post a photo of the completed project.
This is a tiny art clay charm that one of the other ladies gave me,....I love it and I loved my day at French General with Nina.

Life here on Magnolia Ave. continues on,...we have all been loving the change of weather and the warmth without the intense heat is truly wonderful. The dogs and neighborhood cats bask on the warm bricks of the front porch, the birds come to bathe in the fountain under my window and gentle breezes blow my lace curtains about in the cool evenings.
I have preparing for some upcoming events, this Saturday I will be taking a class with my dear Nina at French General! I am so excited,I haven't seen Nina for a few years and am very much looking forward to this. Tammie,(one of my bff's),is also taking the class,so I'm pretty sure this will be a blast.
Next weekend we will once again participating in the Dia de los Muertos program at the San Luis Rey Mission in Oceanside Calif. I have prepared a family altar there for about five years and love celebrating the lives of my loved ones with family, friends, and yes even strangers.
I will leave you with one photo.
This sweetie was a gift from a cousin of mine,...isn't she adorable?! My cousin said she found her at an estate sale and she knew she had to bring her to me,and I'm so glad she did.

Re-finding Treasures

This past week my sister came over and helped me with some fall cleaning,we managed to move the furniture and dust, polish, and wash everything in the den,(no small feat). Tomorrow she will be back and we will get the front living room done. I also managed to go thru  another of my many boxes with the help of my great-niece Jordan. She loves to help me with this project because she knows I will pay her in stuff and Jordan loves stuff, especially crafty/artsy stuff.
I found a couple of vintage baby clothing pieces in those boxes. I love the little chemise above, although it is very yellowed,...anyone have a good recipe to help whiten it a bit?
Someone had cut this piece, but I only paid a dollar or so for it so that was fine with me.
The tiny buttons and pleats are so sweet and the small window pane pattern in the fabric is lovely.
What have you all been up to out there in the world?

John Henry

We are very sad here on Magnolia Ave. On Thursday September 26th,John Henry, the oldest of the fur-babies passed away in his sleep. JH was 14 years old,(quite elderly for a chihuahua),and was much admired and loved by all who met him.
In the video below you can see John Henry sing while my brother,(who passed last year), plays the harmonica. My brother always said that some day he and JH would hit the road and become street performers. I'd like to think that they are both together again and making music.

New Acorns

Remember those acorns I picked up the other day?
Well, here they are now!
I love this vintage printed flour sack cloth,(say that fast three times). I just have a few small pieces of these fabrics and I'm not sure if I can get more,so these acorns will be rather limited. I've also made a few oak leaves and I'll try to show you those next time, they are fabulous!

Signs of the Season

Small signs of the change of seasons keep showing up.
I found these acorns in my cousin's yard,(she has a huge oak tree),and I gathered a few.
I'm hoping to get out some of my bits and pieces of fabrics and stitch some acorns and oak leaves. I have a present in mind that I want to make for someone's birthday next month.
Mom set this little sweetie out just the other day. We have been holding off on some of the decorating because my mom wants some of the furniture moved around and we have to wait for one of the grandson's to help with that.

Time to decorate

It's getting to be that time of year again,...yes,it's time to decorate for Halloween! I haven't managed to find the Halloween storage box yet,but my son Nick gave me this little sweetie last week as an early Halloween gift.
Isn't she adorable!?
This fierce fellow was a birthday card from my sister, but I think he makes a great decoration.
I'm hoping to get more of the decorations put out sometime this week.
